Green Riding Hood, an Organic Fairy Tale by Bobaka is not your average twist on a tale. It is chocked full of additional educational tools and activities that set your child up for a lifetime of healthy habits. Grandma is not your typical invalid that is awaiting goodies from her granddaughter, but a yoga instructor, who teaches all the forest animals about healthy living. She teaches all the animals except the wolf, who has gotten cranky and irritable from his lack of exercise and eating a restricted diet. He is so resentful of grandma and to make matters worse, he can no longer catch any animals because she has taught them all to become stronger and faster through her classes.
One day the wolf devises a scheme to rid the forest of her and slips a sleeping potion into her tea. At yoga time, all the animals discover that their beloved teacher is under a spell, and try to wake her up to no avail. Green Riding Hood realizing that Grandma needs a counter remedy of healthy ingredients, makes a drink to restore Grandma to her former self. The wolf, however, tries to stop her along the way, and Green Riding Hood drops her basket and the elixir. The wolf weak and hungry tries some of the food, and…the rest of the story is in the app for you to find out what happens next!
In Summary: Bluebee serves as not only as a teacher or friend but also as a transitional object to make all things possible.
My wishlist for the app would be that the page transitions be a little faster. Currently, there is a little snail picture while the page is loading. In addition, I would love to see in the morning exercises, yoga poses that would tie into the story as well as naming the vegetables and fruits that go into the counter portion for Grandma. There are links to social media and an IAPs for additional content that is under a parental gate. The IAP portion can be turned off in settings if your child tends to explore all buttons within an app. In summary, I love this little story and its modernization of an old tale. It’s hip and aware of the direction and focuses on helping kid’s become happier and healthier. The graphics are splendid and fun. The add-on packs such as a cookbook and morning exercises to extend activities off screen, as well as the promise of more to come, are what put this app on top! It’s available on iOS. Reading the app or doing any of the activities with Bluebee helps kids generalize the lessons from the story into practical life.
